A sharpshooter by nature, 2020 Riverview guard Zach Mobley settled in nicely for the Rams a year ago.
Riverview (15-13) played a tough schedule which included the City of Palms Classic. The Rams lost to defending Class 9A state champions Oak Ridge in the region quarterfinal as Mobley was a key scoring piece for his squad who had some really good stretches of basketball late in the season.
“My junior season at Riverview was a good learning experience, but I wish we were able to get further into the playoffs,” Mobley told Prep Hoops. “I created good relationships with teammates along with my coaches. I was able to get in the gym on a daily basis and get up shots on the gun at school. I felt like that translated onto the court. I ended the season on around 40-45 percent from 3.”
Former Montverde standout Sean Mobley, Zach’s older brother entered the transfer portal last month from VCU. Zach says that Sean is a huge help when he’s back in town.
“Sean is usually away at college but does come back for a couple of weeks at a time here and there,” he said. “He is someone that will make you compete every time you step on the floor. Off the floor, Sean and I communicate a lot and I tend to ask him for help when I feel like something is off in my game.”
No offers have come yet for the 6’4″, 190-pounder, but Mobley’s list of interested schools include Georgia State, Missouri State, UCF, Cincinnati, Wright State, FAU, Gardner-Webb, Townson, Columbia, Mercer and Iowa State.
This summer, Mobley is suiting up for Team Florida on the Adidas Gold Circuit.
“We are a first-year program and are 8-6 right now. We just recently won the Adidas Memorial Day Classic in Atlanta at Lake Point again the Atlantic Celtics in the championship,” Mobley said. “They have put me in front of many Division I coaches on the and I have gotten almost all of my interest and phone calls from this summer playing with them. I can’t ask for much more than that.”
In terms of his top strengths, Mobley pointed to his IQ saying he really understands how to play the game. He also says his versatility and ability to play the 1-3 spot on offense guard the 1-4 spot defensively as a strength in his game.
Other strengths, he said are his passing in transition and half-court play and his high percentage shooting.
Growing more and more from just being a shooter, Mobley is proving he belongs defensively with his active hands and toughness. You see him diving for loose balls and simply playing the game right. Some Division I program will love this kid. He makes everyone around him play harder and want to win even more.
